Bee's Knees Cocktail | Speakeasy #YXE

March 11, 2016

So as you know, we're throwing a little mixer next week - Speakeasy #YXE. And our friends at Lucky Bastard suggested the queen of Prohibition cocktails - The Bee's Knees.

During Prohibition, bathtub gin tasted a bit like someone lit kerosene on fire, put it out with anthrax and then served it up neat. To try to mask the taste of bootlegged alcohol, simple sweeteners were added. Thus, the Bee’s Knees was born. It’s moniker may have originated from “flapper chatter” of the times, where “the bee’s knees” meant the height of excellence. The Bee’s Knees packs quite the punch, but because of the balance of the honey syrup and fresh lemon it may go down a little too smooth. Don't be surprised if you catch one heck of an unexpected “buzz.” Oh, man...we’re sorry about that.

Bee’s Knees

2 oz [Lucky Bastard] Gin

1oz Honey Syrup

1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice

Lemon Twist for Garnish

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a Martini or Cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

To make your own honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and hot water. Stir until honey is fully dissolved.

Take a sip. We'll be mixing them up on March 16th thanks to our friends at Lucky Bastard Distillers.
